Serengeti National Park
Overview
About Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is Tanzania's most famous national park and one of the world's greatest wildlife arenas. Spanning 14,763 square kilometers of grasslands, savanna, and woodland, it is home to the legendary Great Migration — the largest mass movement of animals on Earth. Over 1.5 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra, and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle follow an ancient circular route through the ecosystem, pursued by predators. The Serengeti also offers exceptional year-round game viewing, with one of the highest concentrations of large predators on the continent.
Best Time to Visit
Year-round, but peak migration viewing is July–October (Mara River crossings). The calving season in the southern Serengeti (January–March) is spectacular for witnessing hundreds of thousands of newborn wildebeest.
